In short, we ensure the safety of the dikes, the correct water level, and clean surface water. We call that integral water management. By that we mean a system of water management that covers the interdependent totality of ground and surface water, including banks, underwater surfaces, and the technical infrastructure.
Integral water management focuses on the management, repair, and development of sustainable water systems, taking account of town and country planning, environment, nature, and landscape. Our district water board splits this into two core activities: water quantity management and water quality management.
And we work on this in the largest continuous area of countryside in the Netherlands: the Veluwe; also in relation to the water, a fantastic area to work in, bordered partly by the river IJssel and the lakes around the IJsselmeer.
